okay just wanted to say that ive had a great time with this and i was so sad when i realized i was at the end of current content! youve done an amazing job on this game in terms of writing and story and gameplay and everything (except defense orbs i hate those guys). might do a second playthrough just to get some of the stuff i missed.

awesome stuff i cannot wait for the next update (but also take your time ofc) :)

!!!SPOILERS FOR SUPERBOSS!!!

okay hi i am loving this game but im in chapter two (finished with calum and penny's areas) and i swear to god i cannot beat this rabbit.

like maybe im missing something but my setup (fighter bennett, medic calum, soldier penny) is working until Devour The Rich comes and wipes all but Penny in the later stages of the fights (at which point despite having a res skill i tend to die)

unless im extraordinarily stupid theres no tell for when devour the rich is gonna happen and i can't figure out if theres some other mechanic behind how it functions

all that to say awesome game but my pride will not let me come back to this fight later on; if anyone has any tips let me know :)

(1 edit)

There's certainly been discussion of it on the discord (like a thread on it)
All I can say for Devour the Rich is that there are some other mechanics that interact with it
I'd say more but for superbosses I really do try to hold my tongue since they're the big challenge of the game.
(edit: Also, you'll get some more tools going forward if you continue to play and come back to it, ones that'll help)

thanks for the quick reply! unfortunately im sort of hitting a wall with what i have available at the moment (thinking maybe if i had chosen to unlock soldier and doubled up it'd be possible?

i think will have to come back to it but hopefully i can still beat it before i pick up a full party

Particularly that mechanic tends to be easier with more tools since there's just more ways to do the thing via different Accessories you pick up over time.

Oh, and its designed to force a three person party and tier 1 classes. So the only way you can get stronger against it is more tools on the toolkit

You're (almost certainly) not stupid. Especially for this mechanic it can be really tricky to notice what the special condition for dealing with it is.
The walkthrough that comes with the game gives a hint (not a guide or strategy, just one hint) for each of the superbosses in the game, so I recommend using that if you're still stumped. For me at least, it helped give me a nudge in the right direction while still leaving me to figure out the fight itself, so I didn't feel any loss of achievement.
Just use the bookmarks or skip straight to the last page of the document so you don't have to see any unwanted spoilers, since it's very exhaustive regarding any topic that isn't the superbosses!

Still only partway in Chapter 1, but oh boy, this is so different from what I'd expect, like a genuinely professional atmosphere. Amazing intro, too. Like, just totally insane intro.

I managed to completely soft lock the game during the accession from Ch.5 school basement. The text triggered to talk about it when they reach the surface, but the rope used to climb out isn't triggering a transition. Is there a work around or is it borked?

(+1)

if you’re on a non patch version you need to be facing upwards at the bottom of the rope and press the confirm button

Thanks for the quick response, but my dense ass just realized I was on 16.2, and patching the .3 files got it to work. Sorry for bothering you lol

Hey, love the game so far! Just wanted to mention that the bug brought up by LaceWolf a few days ago seems to still be present in the latest version. The zero health counter popped up once the first time I tried the battle, and hasn't shown up at all on retires of the bossfight for me. (And yes, I'm sure I did the patch correctly, the overlap points show up in the menu and everything).

The only things I can think of is either that the health regen fires before the check to see if he's at zero hp, meaning the check never succeeds, or it has something to do with having the Fairy subclass equipped. Maybe the Unpredictable skill overrides whatever is happening between turns?

Like I said though, love the game, can't wait for more!

(+1)

it got reported on another place too.
At the moment I think I’ll just bypass any attempts at fancy logic I’m using the brute force it, a bit, haha. I do think I understand what went wrong in the fix at least. Probably can get an update out tomorrow

(1 edit)

(chapter 2: final) (edit: apparently not final. the princess and hero part final but not chapter 2 final)

something weird is up. one character guards, gets no debuffs, but another does get debuffs. it happens over and over again. i dont know what mechanics are here at play. it just has me confused.

(+1)

Sorry, not sure I can answer without more info
(for example, there's no singular final boss for Chapter 2)

Right sorry. it was the dragon one. it would i believe power up. i thought i have to defend twice, so i did. the mc got penalty, but not Penny

(+1)

The dragon one is generally a culmination of the Oasis's introduction of the tanking mechanic.
Basically, some Tank buster attacks need to be taken by a tank class. Tank classes will have a skill that'll increase their enmity and make them much more likely to be hit. The dragon won't only  have that mechanic, but that's the main new one. There's an option in the tactics menu mid-battle that elaborates some on the  boss mechanics you may see

I don't know how to mark spoilers here if I even can, so...

Harper's second SQ has a bug in it's battle where the zero health counter for Bedivere will only proc once and never again. I for the life of me CANNOT win or get the dialogue choice like I could in the last version. If there's actually some new and strange requirement now and it's not really a bug can someone please let me know?

(+1)

Hmm... I know it worked previously, and I'm not aware of changes made.
However, I do see a logical thing that might cause a problem? I've made the adjustment for the next bug fix. So not sure but hopefully that'll help?

(3 edits)

Hopefully it works but if not then oh well. Just something to work at in my opinion, even if that takes a few tries. It did indeed work fine before, I can confirm, having played through multiple times(for different ways) and doing the SQ each time.

Thank you for getting back to me by the way, especially so soon after my comment.

final note: I have a feeling(intuition/hunch kinda?) that it's something to do with the healing at the start of every turn. I'm not a programmer or anything though so probably shouldn't trust my feeling about that.

Well, the logic check I adjusted was making it so the logic check for if it was at zero HP went as frequently as the logic check for if it wasn't.
So hopefully.

(+1)

Well that was certainly a lightning fast update! Damn!

Your issue was definitely a trigger that I should do one before the walkthrough one. Hopefully it works!
Doing patches without needing to do full builds for each platform is *much* quicker to do, too. So that helps.

Every single chest (that I've been able to find, at least) has a unique piece of dialog.

I see you're a man of culture as well.

Seriously though, this is incredibly solid work. Your writing and dialog isn't just good but is often an actual pleasure to read in and of itself (I may have acquired a Liebra addiction), the setting is fascinating and constantly leaves me wanting to learn more, and you even do a great job elevating the combat above standard RPGMaker gameplay. Bonus points especially for choosing to go with a level-less system.

Thanks for sharing your passion with the world. I hope you still have more left in you, because it has been a genuine joy so far!

(+3)

The chests have their own dialogue...? Flashback to Sky Trails and getting all chests dialogue-

Welp, time to start a new playthrough just for this. For fun.

I went to other rpg maker games and it seems this error occurs due to lack of free memory, please disregard

Ah, interesting, I was testing it and wrote up some potential ideas and questions for you.
Happy you learned the cause. That is educational for me, too, thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy it.

The music is largely from licensed or free tracks people have provided online. Though I've assembled a large collection of those to pick from so I am often stingy about music choice to fit the story I want to tell.
This is a one person show for the development. I commission art from Patreon funds, and I purchase more licensed stuff like music. But beyond that this is my passion project. :)

So i have gotten to chapter six... and really am amazed. (i cannot seem to get passed the doors...)

I also have spotted some misspells and typos through out the dialog; do you have a proofreader? if not; i can do it... i may be working on music... or watching a lot of film... however... this game is beautiful, i wish i could play other games. (i use linux.)

Speaking of; there are two glitchy things that happen.

One is the music; which is random; and usually when walking; and in chapter six the Northwest; Crystal Room; has a bit of a movement glitch in the middle section of the map.

I have one suggestion for things. (as it can pose a big risk especially for mid-cutscene saves that randomly come up... (At the casino and again at the school...) specifically when there is a dialog before a boss and you fast forward it; it sometimes will save over a previous save... (the school happened to me both playthroughs and to a lesser degree (hints why i was using the fast forward) was at the casino. Could you change the save thing on those moments like how the rest is with the selections... it took me two days to get back to the school on the second play through. (the reading of everything took an extra day.

UwU

Thank you for making this amazing game. It really helps in this current time of IRL things. Thank you.

I appreciate the kind words, sincerely :D

To expand on some notes… if you get stuck, there is a walkthrough attached to the game files in the ReadMe folder.

I generally accept typos and such as feedback on my Discord. Much easier than trying to do so here, and definitely appreciated for anyone who offers those. I write directly into the engine, which doesn’t have spellcheck. So it can get me at times.

I’d be curious what you mean by glitchy movement and music?

Save wise… I can probably put more of a buffer there so it’s harder to fast forward into a save, yeah.

And once more, I’m happy my little hobby can make yours and others’ days better. I appreciate the kind words.

For the music, at first; i thought it was intentional, it sounded like something i would compose... so i overlooked it the first playthrough. Then during the second playthrough it was during a different point in the story with an entirely different song. The sound isn't that bad; i kinda like the noise artifacts; as it kinda reminds me of the wishing well sidequest. UwU I don't know how to replicate it; although it may be paired with keeping the game open for a long duration (after about a couple hours of playing... yeah; this game brings me back to my childhood when playing FFIII on the Super Nintendo. Lost a lot of sleep.)

With the movement glitch; it is more like a slight lag while walking; it is near a couple of enemies.. it distorts the visuals in a laggy kind of way; and only happens for a little bit in that one spot. (not sure if intentional; though it doesn't seem so as there isn't anywhere around the game that had the same kind of visual telling...

I used the walkthrough on the second playthrough as the trial part as a bit difficult to understand; and at that point i realized i should have selected a different character who gives a specific pants hating TF... However; Chapter 6 kinda felt like you were quickly writing it and had not refined it as the previous 5 chapters. Like i went to one area instead of the other; (which i don't think the order matters for the four rooms.) Then doing the other three sections... (which right away you point us "left" instead of "right" The Southern Above Water Doors are kinda lost to me... (usually you would have a photo giving a hint.) Which all this searching; i get a lot of materials and such. :D

I will eventually find it. UwU

Apologies I'm not quite understanding the music point still.
The slight movement lag is unfortunately a bug in the plugins I use and it not handling one of the mechanics I use in the game very well. It's a bit technical to go into, but generally it's more me choosing that its an acceptable trade-off after I scaled back some of my original plans. I'd have to choose to revamp that system considerably. Maybe one day, but for now I have no plans on that.

Noted on the walkthrough. I could probably add a thing there. I think I've just assumed it to be "obvious" in my head, but that's my bias as the creator talking.

This game is a masterpiece

Will you release this game on steam?

(+2)

Eventually I plan to. I have a specific part of development I want to get to before I do.

sorry, I don’t think I have another way to contact you (I assume this is Valerie from the server). Im sorry if I made you feel unwelcome on the server at all. I was just trying to moderate some specific type of talk to be done in sections designated for them. Please do what’s best for yourself, but know that you’re fully welcome on the server if you ever want to return, and sorry if I ever made you feel otherwise.
